DIN 1.2379 / D2 Tool Steel Product Overview

DIN 1.2379, also known as AISI D2, SKD11, or X153CrMoV12, is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel under the DIN EN ISO 4957 standard. Renowned for its excellent wear resistance, high compressive strength, and good dimensional stability, D2 is ideal for applications requiring sharp cutting edges and long tool life. It offers high hardness (up to 60–62 HRC after heat treatment) and moderate toughness, with superior resistance to abrasive wear due to its high chromium content. Typically supplied in the annealed condition (max 255 HB), it is widely used for precision tooling and is suitable for vacuum hardening and surface treatments like nitriding.

Cold Work:

• Cutting tools, such as punches, dies, and shear blades for sheet metal processing.
