DIN 1.2343/H11, also known as AISI H11, SKD6, or X37CrMoV5-1, is a chromium-molybdenum hot work tool steel recognised for its excellent impact toughness, high strength, and resistance to thermal fatigue. It is part of the AISI H-series steels, designed for high-temperature applications with minimal distortion during hardening due to balanced alloy content. H11 offers superior toughness compared to H13, with slightly reduced wear and temper resistance due to lower vanadium content, making it ideal for demanding hot and cold work environments.

Applications

DIN 1.2343/H11 is versatile, used in both hot and cold work applications:

Hot Work:

• Die casting dies for aluminium, magnesium, and zinc alloys.
• Hot forging dies, extrusion tooling, and press forging tools.
• Hot punches, hot shear blades, and hot gripper dies.
• Plastic injection moulds requiring high toughness and polishability.

Cold Work:

• Punching, heading, and inserting dies.
• Cold shear blades and tool holders.

Other Uses:

• Highly stressed structural parts, such as aircraft landing gear.
• High-speed hammer forging moulds (hardness 42–50 HRC).
• Extrusion tooling and shrink work chucks.
